BAM showcases “world’s most extreme construction site”

BAM Nuttall, a UK subsidiary of Dutch Royal BAM Group, has released a video called The World’s Most Extreme Construction Site, about work undertaken in the Antarctic.

The 14 minute video, which premiered on construction YouTube channel The B1M, follows BAM and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) on their work to modernise infrastructure used by climate change research scientists.

The Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme involves:

  • Wharf expansion to accommodate the polar vessel the RRS Sir David Attenborough;
  • Comprehensive modernisation of the Rothera Research Station;
  • Improving facilities and working conditions at other BAS research stations.

Menno de Jonge, BAM’s director of digital construction, said: "(The documentary) captures the benefits of digital construction when planning for working in this remote, harsh and sometimes hazardous environment that our teams and partners face during delivery."

BAM won the $123m with BAS in 2017. The project was commissioned by the the Natural Environment Research Council, and will last at least another five years.

  1. What a cool project to be a part of. While the rewards are, I am sure, great, the sacrifice is also huge. Everyone involved deserves thanks for their willingness to put their lives on hold for extended periods to work to get these projects complete.
    Again, very cool to be able to be informed on this work and to see it being done.
