The winner of the first civils contract on line 17 of the Grand Paris Express, part of the city’s preparations for the 2024 Olympics, has been awarded.
The successful bid was from the Avenir consortium, which consists of Demathieu Bard Construction, four subsidiaries of Italian construction engineer Impresa Pizzarotti, Swiss engineer Implenia and three subsidiaries of Dutch contractor BAM: BAM Contractors, Galère and Wayss & Freytag.
The €440m contract was awarded by state agency Société du Grand Paris, and its scope includes the stretch of line 17 North between Le Bourget and the Triangle de Gonesse station in the Municipality of Gonesse.
When completed, the route will ferry passengers to and from Paris and Le Bourget Airport during the 2024 Summer Olympics. From 2027, it will do the same for Triangle de Gonesse station.
The works includes:
- Civil engineering works for stations at Le Bourget Airport and Triangle de Gonesse
- A 6km-long drilled tunnel
- Construction of a deepened and partly covered railway line
- Civil engineering activities at seven other project sites
Thierry Dallard, Société du Grand Paris’ executive chairman, said: "The award of this contract marks the announcement of the upcoming start of the civil engineering works for metro line 17.
"The composition of the winning consortium shows the attractiveness of the project for the European construction industry and our ability to appeal to new players in the building sector, which is under high pressure."
When completed, the Grand Paris Express will cut the journey times between the Charles de Gaulle to La Défense Airport from an hour to 35 minutes, and Le Bourget Airport to La Courneuve from 35 minutes to five minutes.
