UK-headquartered consultant Atkins, a subsidiary of Canada’s SNC-Lavalin, has been selected to create a transportation plan for American football team the Oakland Raiders’ Las Vegas ground.
Atkins will develop transportation links in the 3.2 sq km Stadium District surrounding the venue, as well as improving environmental quality.
Southern Nevada’s Transportation Commission awarded Atkins the contract due to the anticipated increase in transportation demand. The 65,000-seat NFL ground is being built near the T-Mobile Arena, the Las Vegas Strip and McCarran International Airport.
Harshal Desai, Atkins’ vice president, said: "The Stadium District will transform the community and economy of the surrounding area and the affected transportation must be managed to ensure safety, quality of life and sustainability.
"This project impacts the entire Las Vegas area and revolves around a major recreational entity that will attract visitors and affect residents."
Construction on the stadium began in September 2017, and is due to be completed in time for the 2020 NFL season.
