Arup to engineer US’s Beirut embassy

Work has started on a replacement for the US embassy in Lebanon, for which Arup is to provide a range of engineering services in collaboration with the US interdisciplinary firm Morphosis. 

The embassy compound is being constructed on 43 acres in Awkar, about 11km north of Beirut.  

Arup is providing structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and engineering services for the building, which is designed to achieve LEED Silver rating for environmental performance.  

Arup has collaborated with Morphosis on a number of other projects, including the San Francisco Federal Building and Emerson College’s Los Angeles Centre. 

The two companies are also working on a US embassy in London with architect KieranTimberlake, as well as a consulate in Matamoros, Mexico, with Richärd + Bauer.

Arup along with Aecom were recently chosen to oversee Tokyo’s 2020 Olympic Games.
