Arup and Ramboll to work on Copenhagen metro

Metroselskabet, the owner of Copenhagen’s metro, has appointed a joint venture between consulting engineers Arup and Ramboll to develop a light rail system for greater Copenhagen.  

The Ring 3 project includes 27km of  double-tracked rail and 27 stations served by a rolling stock of 27 trains.  

The project is intended to promote the use of public transport as well as encouraging urban development around the edge of the city. The route will follow that of the Ring 3 motorway and will link 11 municipalities, from Lundhofte in the north to Ishøj in the south.

When the system is operational, it is planned that a train will arrive every five minutes at peak times, and that a journey along the whole length of the line will take 55 minutes.   

Arup’s role includes design co-ordination and the technical integration of the light rail systems, the design of the control and maintenance centre, traction power and noise and vibration modelling.
