US-headquartered infrastructure firm Aecom has been selected to design a new "world-class" learning and research building for the University of Exeter, England, in partnership with Hopkins Architects.
The Aecom-Hopkins team won the design competition for Project North Park, which is scheduled to open in 2022. It follows Aecom’s recent appointment to design new facilities at the University of Bristol.
Aecom will deploy teams from around southern England to carry out the project.
According to Aecom, it is one of the largest investments made by the university over the past 10 years. Located on its Streatham Campus, the purpose-built facility will bring together students and leading academics from the sciences, humanities and social sciences.
Mike Shore-Nye, Registrar and Secretary at the University of Exeter, said it would be "a world class research and teaching building that will support the university’s ambition to be a UK top 10 and global top 100 leader".
Aecom’s regional executive, Chris Taylor, said: "The new facility will be a dynamic, state-of-the-art learning space that will not only help attract and retain the best researchers and students, but also provide opportunities for engagement with wider partners and stakeholders. This will be a really exciting project to deliver over the coming four years."
Aecom teams in Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Southampton, Cambridge and London will deliver the project, providing multidisciplinary design services, Aecom said.
Aecom was recently appointed to design new academic teaching space and a student village for the University of Bristol.
