A contractor renovating a student residence at Texas A&M University in the city of College Station has confirmed that 55 workers on the site have tested positive for Covid-19.
Hoar Construction told local television station KBTX that it suspended work on the site after three workers caught the virus at the beginning of June.Â
The company then tested all 153 workers renovating the Dunn Hall residence.
Hoar chief operating officer Randall Curtis told KBTX that only six workers had showed symptoms.
One of those had been taken to hospital but was released within a day.
Curtis said workers had been confined to the work area and had not been in proximity to students or campus staff.
The company had been following all official Covid safety guidelines before the outbreak, Curtis said.
Work has since resumed and workers are screened before entering on the site.
