The construction of a 100ha solar farm, the largest in the Netherlands, is planned in Westerwolde, in the northeast of the country, by asset manager Impax and energy firm Solarcentury.
The 110MW development will contain 350,000 panels and generate 104,000MWh of electricity a year, enough to power about 30,000 households.
Work on the Vlagtwedde plant was initiated by Dutch company PowerField and co-developed by PowerField and Solarcentury.
Hector Boyce, Impax & Director of Zonnepark Vlagtwedde said:Â “We are excited to be making our first investment in the Netherlands.
“Not only is this investment supporting the Netherlands’ transition away from fossil fuels to renewable sources through the creation of the country’s largest solar farm, it is also creating employment opportunities and supporting biodiversity in the local area.
“The project has been developed in close cooperation with local parties, and we look forward to making further investments in the Netherlands.”
The facility is due to be operational in the second half of 2020.
