Swiss cement-maker Holcim will name its new North American spin-off “Amrize”.

It will be listed on the New York stock exchange under the ‘‘AMRZ’’ symbol, classed as a domestic issuer under Securities and Exchange Commission rules. Another listing will be made on the SIX Swiss exchange for European investors.

The company name is a portmanteau of “ambition” and “rising”, with the “Am” aiming to represent the company’s commitment to high-performance and innovation and “Rize” symbolising construction across North America.

Jan Jenisch, chairman of Amrize and Holcim, said: “Introducing the Amrize name marks an important step as we prepare Holcim’s North American business to become an independent public company.

“This is an exciting time for construction in North America, with the ongoing modernisation of infrastructure, the reshoring of manufacturing, and the opportunity to bridge the housing gap with the most advanced building solutions.

“With our planned spin-off of Amrize, we aim to be the partner of choice for our North American customers and unlock value for all our stakeholders.”

The planned spin-off is due to be completed by the end of the first half of 2025.
