Saudi Arabia has announced the completion of the first project of its Neom programme: the 840,000 sq m island destination of Sindalah.
This attraction was masterplanned by yacht-designer and architect Luca Dini. When fully built out in 2028, it will be able to accommodate 2,400 guests and 3,500 staff working at the resort’s 38 restaurants and 36 shops, as well as its beachfront golf course.
The island contains a 86-berth marina and offshore buoys for super yachts and is intended to be a gateway to the Red Sea for yachts sailing from the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal.
At the height of work on the scheme, some 30,000 employees were employed by four contractors and 60 subcontractors. Now work has slowed, but is still under way on 440 hotel rooms, 88 villas and 218 serviced apartments.
Nadhmi Al-Nasr, Neom’s chief executive, said: “Our inaugural destination offers visitors a first glimpse of what the future holds for our extensive portfolio of destinations and developments.”
Other Neom attractions will include the mountainous ski resort Trojena, an international airport managed by Aecom and The Line, a 170km-long, 200m-wide city for 9 million people.
