In the summer of 2022, a 29m-tall, temporary pink staircase designed by Dutch architect MVRDV will be installed at Rotterdam’s New Institute cultural centre.
The 143-step structure will lead to a 600 sq m podium space on the New Institute’s roof which will host events and offer views across the city.
The podium will be made of scaffolding with floor finishes that can later be recycled. It will be taken over in June by Rotterdam Architecture Month and between July and August will be used for sports classes, rooftop dinners and children’s programmes.
The project is part of MVRDV’s aims to make Rotterdam’s rooftops more accessible.
