14 October 2013

Mott MacDonald has been appointed as an independent engineer for the construction of the first elevated expressway project in Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka.

Thai, UK and Dutch divisions of the company will work together in the joint venture with Dhaka-based Bridges Division under the country’s first major public private partnership (PPP) contract.

At an estimated cost of $1.1bn, construction of the 40-kilometre elevated road will take place in three phrases although an actual start date for works is yet to be announced.

Bridges Division secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune last week: "We hope that the work will begin within the tenure of this government."

The expressway will be built by Thailand-based contractor Ital-Thai.
