Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to develop an apartment block in Miami, designed by New York’s SHoP Architects on behalf of US real estate company JDS Development Group.
“Mercedes-Benz Places” will contain 791 flats ranging from studios to three-bedroom condominiums. Its 2.5 million sq ft of floor space makes it one of the largest projects under construction in Florida.
The development will also house a 174-unit hotel, 130,000 sq ft of hospitality space, offices, shops and health and fitness facilities.
The cubic stacked-box design is inspired by the Bauhaus school of design. The building is mostly silver, complemented by Mercedes’ classic black and white. It will be located in Brickell, at 1 Southside Park and will form part of programme of works intended to turn the park into an urban oasis.
Michael Stern, JDS’ founder, said: “is a privilege to work with Mercedes-Benz and move beyond a traditional residential building to create a community for the future. Underpinned by sustainable building methods and design, Mercedes–Benz Places will create a legacy not just for Brickell, but Florida as a whole.”
Eva Wiese, the head of Mercedes-Benz Customer Solutions, said: “Our branded real-estate venture in Miami embodies the strategy behind Mercedes-Benz Places. We want to develop exclusive residences with our partner that are undeniably Mercedes-Benz and create a new mode of urban living with vibrant communities. Ultimately, we want to create places to come home to, in a location worth living in.”
Foundation work is under way in the scheme, with occupancy due to begin in 2027.
