A former construction consultant for McDonald’s has been charged with bribery after he allegedly accepted a US$10,000 watch.
The case has been brought by Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption against Ling Mun-tong.
Mr Ling, 45, was employed by MHK Restaurants, which operates 200 McDonald’s in Hong Kong.
The case relates to the awarding of renovation work to a company called Wardson Deco-Construction. The state is claiming that Ling was given the watch in return for awarding contracts to Wardson.
Between September 2021 and December 2023, Wardson was awarded 34 contracts for renovations and 14 for minor works. These were said to be worth a total of US$2.3m.
The South China Morning Post notes that Ling faces a separate charge of bank fraud.
