UK-headquartered global construction firm Mace has appointed Stephen Venney as its country director for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a newly created role, amid signs of recovery in the country’s construction sector.
A 17-year veteran of UAE construction, Venney joined Mace in 2016 having led projects for contractors and clients in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Venney has led Mace’s project management of Dubai’s One Za’abeel high-rise mixed use scheme, featuring a record-breaking 225-metre-long cantilevered bridge, known as The Link, connecting the two towers. (See further reading.)
As well as One Za’abeel, in the UAE Mace is currently delivering the Dubai Opera District, Ain Dubai, Expo 2020 Dubai, Reem Mall in Abu Dhabi and Stella Maris.
Analyst GlobalData last week flagged up signs of recovery in Dubai’s construction sector, with government-controlled developers planning new projects in response to prices buoyed up by the emirate’s recovery from the pandemic, adding that big infrastructure schemes could follow.
Nakheel, Emaar and Meydan are all planning new projects, and one new residential scheme by Nakheel sold out this month within hours of being announced.
