Indian construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured what it called a “large” contract from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) to build 116km of high-speed ballastless track (Package No. T3) for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, also known as the Bullet Train Project.
L&T did not reveal the contract’s value, but classifies “large” contracts as valued at between 25 billion and 50 billion rupees, or between $322m and $644m.
The scope of the contract includes design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning, on a design-build lump-sum price basis, for the double line between Vadodara and Sabarmati in Gujarat, which will use Japanese Shinkansen track technology.
L&T said this slab track system will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 320km/h.
It is currently delivering ballastless track projects in multiple metro projects in India and other countries including Mauritius and Bangladesh.
On the Bullet Train Project, L&T is executing civil viaduct and station packages C4, C5 and C6 and special steel bridges packages P4(X) & P4(Y).
