Leighton Contractors and its Causeway Alliance partners have been contracted by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to deliver the NZ$220m Causeway Upgrade Project on State Highway 16 (SH16) (Northwestern Motorway) in Auckland.
The Causeway Alliance is a consortium consisting of NZTA with Leighton Contractors, Fulton Hogan, Aecom, Sinclair Knight Merz and Coffey Geotechnics.
The project will complete a key section of Auckland’s Western Ring Route, significantly improving connectivity between Auckland’s west and central city for commuters and freight transport.
The Alliance will raise and widen the causeway between Great North Road at Waterview and the Te Atatu Interchange. Works will address existing flooding issues, introduce dedicated bus shoulders and upgrade the Northwestern Cycleway and pedestrian facilities along the route.
Andrew Stevens, general manger of Leighton Contractors in New Zealand, said the company looks forward to continuing to work with NZTA to build this vital transport link.
“The Causeway Alliance team integrates roading, bridge, environmental and community engagement specialists and construction personnel who have successfully delivered other major road infrastructure projects with NZTA,” he said.
The Alliance expects to start construction in quarter two, with project completion scheduled for late 2016.
