Webuild’s US subsidiary, Lane Construction, has won a $102m design-build project to overhaul a traffic-clogged highway interchange feeding Disney and other resorts in Orange County, Florida.

Every day, more than 150,000 vehicles use the interchange connecting Interstate 4 (I-4), State Road 535, and Apopka-Vineland Road to access the area’s lakes, superstores, and tourism destinations.

The Florida Department of Transportation awarded the contract.

It envisages a partial reconstruction of the interchange including: a new loop ramp from northbound Apopka-Vineland Road to westbound I-4; the realignment of the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from southbound Apopka-Vineland Road; and lengthening the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Apopka-Vineland Road to reduce backups onto the I-4.

Maintaining access to the area’s attractions will be one of Lane’s challenges.

Construction is scheduled to start in 2024.
