The Japanese government has signed $23m grant agreements to construct two water projects in Kenya, one to augment a water supply system, the other to drill of 90 boreholes.
Forty-three of these boreholes will run off solar power, in Baringo County, and then be equipped with pumping facilities, pipelines and storage tanks.
Japanese ambassador to Kenya Toshihisa Takata said the solar powered boreholes would lessen management costs and reduce greenhouse gases emissions.

The two projects will benefit about 140,000 people in Narok and Baringo County, according to treasury secretary Henry Rotich.
He noted: "There is need to support the water sector as it contributes directly to the country’s economic growth."
