Italian contracting giant Salini Impregilo is moving ahead with its name change – to Webuild – after shareholders agreed the move in a meeting on Monday.
The company said the change “signals the latest step in the Group’s evolution, becoming ever more global with a strong base in Italy”.
Its international projects include the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Gerald Desmond Bridge in California, the expansion of the Panama Canal, the Snowy 2.0 hydroelectric power station in Australia, and the Al Bayt 2022 World Cup stadium in Qatar.
The company’s new orders in 2019 totalled €8.1bn, with a total backlog reaching €36.2bn.
Webuild is currently in the process of acquiring Italian contractor Astaldi, which it said would give the new entity a combined order backlog of €42.5bn, and a workforce of 70,000 people.
