Indian firm brings peat power to Rwanda

Punj Lloyd, an Indian engineering and construction firm, has signed an agreement with the Rwandan government to construct, maintain and operate a $371m peat power plant with a 100MW capacity.

The company is used to dealing with different energy sources such as geothermal, nuclear and coal and generates nearly 10,000MW in India.

Rwandan energy and water minister Emma Francoise Isumbingabo said of the agreement: "The government is continuously working towards attaining its goal of closing the gap of the 2017 energy target of 563MW which will be achieved using various sources, peat being one of them."

Punj Lloyd operates in over 120 countries and has a turnover of $2.4bn.
