Hochtief and Strabag share $203m Copenhagen metro contract

A joint venture between Germany’s Hochtief and Züblin Scandinavia, a Swedish subsidiary of Austrian contractor Strabag, has been awarded a $203m contract to add a line to the Copenhagen metro.

The contract, which was let by metro authority Metroselskabet, involves the design and construction of 2km of twin-bore tunnels that will connect the city’s new North Harbour development area with the Cityringen circle line. The contract also includes the construction and fitting out of a station at Nordhavn.

Züblin has a $122m share of the contract and Hochtief has the remainder.

Construction is due to start at the end of this year and complete in 2019.  Meanwhile, Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska has today announced he plans to buy a 5.6% share of Strabag, raising his stake in the company to 25%.

Strabag was recently fined by the Slovakian government and is no longer able to bid for future roads contracts.
