UK architect Heatherwick Studio has unveiled its design for the Jeddah Central Museum, a cultural project located on the site of a former desalination plant on the banks of the Red Sea.
The turbine hall will contain an exhibition space similar to London’s Tate Modern, and the rest of the plant will act as an artist’s souk, with workshops and a campus for creatives.
The museum will form the centrepiece of a 7.75 million sq m development in Jeddah, which will contain tourist, entertainment, sport, cultural, commercial and residential spaces.
An engagement programme has been created, allowing the creative community to shape the project’s design.
