The Grand, a Frank Gehry-designed development that includes two towers, has opened in downtown Los Angeles.
The taller of the towers will have 45 storeys and will contain 436 residential units and 22,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor space. There will also be a 305-bed hotel operated by Conrad, an upmarket subsidiary of Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
The project will also contain 164,000 sq ft of leasable retail and restaurant space, and will offer views of another Gehry creation – the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which opened in 2003.
Gehry, said: “I am so proud of this building. From the start, our mission was to create a project that had a human scale to it and one that was a good neighbour to the buildings around it. And miraculously, I think we pulled it off.
“We did this in collaboration and partnership with our clients Related, who cared as much as we did about creating excellent urban space for downtown LA.”
