The government of Germany has put forward a bill to boost housing output by streamlining regulations.

The Building Type E Act aims to lower the cost of building to ameliorate the country’s housing shortage.

According to a press release by the Federal Ministry for Housing, the proposed law would allow greater flexibility in construction practices. The focus would by on promoting straightforward and cost-effective building methods rather than trying to list specific requirements.

Klara Geywitz, the federal minister of housing, said the changes would make life easier for architects, planners, developers and builders.

A further guideline, called “Simply Build”, has been written by the ministry with the help of the Alliance for Affordable Housing.

World Construction Network quotes Marco Buschmann, the justice minister, as saying “building in Germany is too expensive”. The Ministry of Justice estimates that €8bn could be saved each year if the law is passed.
