Construction has been completed on Icône, an 18,800 sq m office complex in Belval in southwest Luxembourg, designed by UK architect Foster + Partners.
Foster’s design reflects Belval’s industrial heritage, with the building arranged as two wings enclosing an atrium that offers a view of Belval former blast furnace.
The building itself highlights its orthogonal structural grid, which encloses flexible office space on the upper storeys, and has shops, cafés and restaurants on the ground floor.
Darron Haylock, a partner in the London architect, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the opening of this landmark project for Belval, which we began designing in 2016, well before the pandemic began. Covid has highlighted the need for healthier and more flexible urban workspaces, which is exactly what this project provides.
“The light-filled central atrium is the beating heart of the complex, promoting collaboration and enhancing employee wellbeing.”
