A joint venture between American engineer Fluor and infrastructure specialist Austin Bridge & Road has been selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to work on the second phase of an Interstate expansion in the state.
The two will handle design, construction and maintenance on an extension of the I-35E in Dallas. Altogether, the award is worth $640m to the companies.
The 10km project will link the I-635 in Dallas to the Denton County line in Carrollton.
The scope of work includes expanding the road from six to eight lanes, creating auxiliary lanes at entrance and exit ramps and adding tolled lanes.
Terry Towle, president of Fluor’s Urban Solutions business, said: "We’ve continuously worked with TxDOT for the past 20 years. Fluor is pleased to have the opportunity to continue building on its long history in Texas."
Construction is due to begin in late 2021 and be completed in late 2025.
