Five finalists for the High-Rise Award 2022/23 have been announced, with the shortlist including buildings from four continents.
The finalists are:
Quay Quarter Tower, Sydney
The 206m tall tower is located on Sydney Cove as part of the city’s central business district and was designed by Danish architects 3XN.
Containing office and retail space, the project integrates part of the previous tower’s structure, using two thirds of the beams, columns and floor slabs as well as almost the entire core built in the 1970s.
Completed in April 2022, the building is comprised of five volumes stacked on top of each other linked by an atrium.
Singapore State Courts, Singapore
The new Singapore State Courts complex has expanded the existing courts building from the 1970s threefold and used a vertical design different from a traditional horizontal courthouse layout.
The previous octagonal building has been preserved, which created two slender 35-story towers connected by glazed foot bridges which lead to 53 courtrooms and 54 hearing rooms.
The tower does not contain an exterior façade, hoping to create the effect of an open and approachable court.
Work on the project was completed in August 2019 and was designed by UK studio Serie Architects and Singapore’s Multiply Architects and CPG Consultants.
The Bryant, New York
The 115m tall, 33-storey skyscraper was designed by David Chipperfield Architects and contains residential and hotel units.
Based at the south west corner of Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, the Bryant has a classic New York tower tripartite composition: base, middle section and crown.
The façade’s polished precast concrete slabs and columns also echo classic American high-rises. The project was completed in June 2021.
TrIIIple Towers, Vienna
Located in Vienna’s 3rd district, directly on the Danube Canal are the TrIIIple Towers three buildings, rising to 119m, 115m and 106m.
The towers hold residential and hotel space and are linked by a two-story podium which contains communal areas, restaurants, stores and a kindergarten.
Work on the development was completed in October 2021 and it was designed by ARE Austrian Real Estate Developement.
Vancouver House, Vancouver
Vancouver House, contains a mixed-use podium and slender residential tower designed by Denmark’s Bjarke Ingels Group.
The 156m tower has a triangular base and widens into a rectangle at the top.
Sitting at the entrance to Vancouver’s downtown, the building’s silhouette widens upward and appears as if a curtain is being pulled back to welcome visitors.
The project was completed in February 2020.
34 projects from 13 countries were selected for the award’s long-list.
Entries must be over 100m tall.
