French civil engineer Eiffage has won a €100m design-and-build contract to renovate and expand the container terminal at Matadi, the largest seaport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The work was awarded by Matadi Corridor Terminaux à Conteneurs (MCTC) and includes the construction of a dock 350m-long and 30m-wide in front of existing docks.

Three 20m-wide bridges will also be built over the dock. There will also be an operations building, a workshop and a refurbished 7ha logistics hub.

The project is due to be completed within 27 months, with the dock remaining operational throughout.

Matadi is situated on the left bank of the Congo River, 148km upstream from the mouth of the river.
