New York architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro has unveiled its design for Therme Dubai, a wellness destination that will have 100m-tall “islands in the sky”.
Located in Zabeel Park, close to the Royal Palace in the city centre, the 46,500 sq m project will consist of a series of stacked botanical gardens attached to a tower, each with cascading water features and pools.
Visitors will be able to enjoy thermal and mineral waters, saunas, steam rooms, cultural areas and social spaces.

Elizabeth Diller, Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s co-founder, said: “Elevated high above the concerns of everyday urban life, Therme Dubai is an oasis in the sky.
“By day, the atmosphere is contemplative and relaxing. By night, the spaces come alive with music, artistic performances and events.”
Ninety per cent of water used in thermal pools will be recycled and 80% of the energy used for ventilation will be generated by clean energy.

Robert Hanea, Therme Group’s founder, said: “We are shaping how cities can integrate nature, water and culture to elevate quality of life at scale. Therme Dubai, Islands in the Sky will stand as a global model for what’s possible when ambition and expertise align.”
Construction is due to begin in 2026 and be completed by the end of 2028. It hopes to attract 1.7 million visitors a year.
