Multiplex has stopped work on the curvaceous 79-storey Premier Tower in Melbourne – which its architect Elenberg Fraser said had been inspired by the singer, Beyonce – after 12 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed.
On Friday the contractor asked all workers to take a test and self-isolate until they got a negative result, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
Multiplex will undertake a deep clean at the Spencer Street site, where it has been building the 780-apartment tower since 2016.
"Work is expected to recommence early next week once testing results have been returned," Multiplex said, according to the Herald.
On Sunday, the Australian state of Victoria – of which Melbourne is the capital – declared a "state of disaster" amid a sudden surge of coronavirus cases.
An 8pm curfew was imposed on Melbourne, with people told to stay home except for essential tasks.
