Architecture firm EskewDumezRipple has produced a concept design for the planned Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience Museum in New Orleans.
The 120,000-sq-ft The Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience will be located across the street from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center downtown.
It will celebrate the contributions the city has made to the music industry, incorporating many styles.
The architect said that while there are several smaller museums in the state and region celebrating specific genres, this one would take a “complete view of music as it relates to the people and legacy of music from the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana are not yet represented in one space”.
The design was developed with help from AI to generate a spectrum of architectural forms and styles in the form of massing studies.
The outer shell takes inspiration from the hollowed body of a guitar, while outlines of various other instruments “find expression as sinuous and flowing lines in specific elements and building details”.
Inside will be exhibits, performance spaces, a research area, and education areas. The venue will also include a music club and restaurant.
Chairman of the museum’s development board, Christopher Beary, told Where Y’at Magazine that it would be the first museum to integrate live music performances into the museum experience.
