China Railway Construction Corp (CRCC) has been chosen by Malaysian real estate firm M101 as the lead contractor for SkyWheel – a giant capital H with the world’s highest Ferris wheel perched on the crossbar.
The Ferris wheel itself will take the form of a giant watch. The two towers on either side will contain office and retail space, Asia’s first Planet Hollywood Hotel and a rooftop pool. The centre of the wheel will be 220m above the ground
CRCC’s $214m contract involves working on the two 316m high towers, which will have a total floor area of 200,000 sq m.
A MRT station will be located beneath the buildings.
Studio FA Porsche, a subsidiary of the German car maker, designed the SkyWheel and tower. It says it "applied local Malay design elements through a functional and thoroughly modern lens, turning traditional patterns into bold and new imagery".
The project is due to be completed in 2021.
