Australia’s contracting giant Brookfield Multiplex has joined the shortlist for London’s next big project, the $535m first phase of the Battersea Power Station development, UK’s Building magazine reports.
Brookfield joins majors Sir Robert McAlpine, Lend Lease, Laing O’Rourke and Carillion on the shortlist.
Building reports that Sir Robert McAlpine, already on site at Battersea doing preparation work, is believed to be the favourite to win the overall construction contract.
Battersea Power Station phase 1 facing West
The first phase of the redevelopment of the historic Battersea Power Station was granted detailed planning permission last December.
The Ian Simpson and dRMM-designed scheme comprises two mixed-use buildings of varied heights between eight and 18 storeys.
They will be built to the west of the power station next to a new six-acre public park and will provide 800 apartments, a 120-bed hotel, 230 student apartments, and space for cafes, restaurants, bars, a gym, pool, spa, theatre and office studios.
