Bechtel wins 360MW solar job in Michigan

Bechtel has won a contract to build a 360MW solar power plant in Calhoun County, Michigan, from Chicago-based renewables developer Hecate Energy.

The facility, called Sunfish Solar 2, will have 620,000 bifacial solar panels set over 1,300 acres. Bifacial panels absorb sunlight from both sides.

It’s the first phase of Hecate Energy’s planned 1GW development in the county.

When finished in 2026, the Sunfish development will generate enough energy to power about 183,500 Michigan homes.

Bechtel said work on Sunfish Solar 2 will start this year and would create around 350 construction jobs at peak.

The company did not disclose the value of the contract.
