US engineer Bechtel has begun work on a 226MW solar farm in Lincoln County, Nevada. The facilities’ 389,000 panels will be located on a 900-acre plot, and will produce energy for MGM Resorts International, Overton Power District, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Las Vegas.
The farm will use bifacial panels, allowing them to absorb sunlight on both sides.
The project, to be called Escape Solar and Storage, is being built on behalf of Estuary Power. This company, a majority woman-owned business, has completed a $340m financing package for the project.
Jill Daniel, founder and chief executive of Estuary, commented: “We chose Bechtel to design and construct Escape because of our long, trusted relationship and Bechtel’s heritage of designing and constructing the most difficult projects in the world with excellence and professionalism.”
Kelley Brown, Bechtel’s operations manager for renewables, said: “Our commitment to our customers, with whom we’ve worked closely for 20 years, is to bring our best talent and industry-leading digital processes to deliver fast and effective results.
“We look forward to building a facility that will generate renewable energy for decades to come and add to Nevada’s successful history of renewable power generation.”
Construction is due to be completed by the third quarter of 2025.
