Bechtel has been appointed capital portfolio partner for Perth Airport’s A$5bn expansion and upgrade programme.
The programme involves a suite of major projects, including expanding its terminals, building a new runway, and adding the airport’s first hotel, along with two multi-story car parks.
Bechtel will advise on the projects while the airport keeps operating.
The idea is to boost tourism and economic growth in Western Australia.
Perth is Australia’s only airport offering direct flights to Europe. Passenger numbers are expected to grow from 16 million to 20 million annually by 2030.
Construction is already underway. The new runway is set for completion in 2028, followed by the delivery of the new terminal in 2031.
“Perth Airport is a barometer for growth in the Western Australian economy,” said Jason Waters, the airport’s chief executive.
“When we’re growing, the State’s economy is growing and prospering. The appointment of Bechtel as our Capital Portfolio Partner is another critical step in delivering our plans to change the face of Perth Airport over the coming decade.”
