British contractor Balfour Beatty has won a $30m contract to deliver a 900ft runway and taxiway extension at Albert J Ellis Airport in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
As general contractor, Balfour Beatty will install a medium-intensity approach light system and runway. It will also build an entrance to the airport’s roadway and complete realignment work for North Carolina Highway 111.
The airport is owned by Onslow County, and serves the Jacksonville, Wilmington, New Bern and Eastern North Carolina areas.
Josh Taylor, Balfour Beatty North Carolina’s project executive, said: “Balfour Beatty will leverage its extensive experience in the delivery of runway expansions to deliver these exciting new additions to Albert J Ellis Airport.
“Once complete, the revitalised airport will provide a convenient travel experience for passengers and the driving public who come to and from Onslow County.”
Construction is due to begin in spring 2025.
