Balfour Beatty awarded contract for 39-storey tower in Atlanta

Balfour Beatty, the UK’s largest contractor, has been selected to build a 39-storey mixed-use residential tower in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The luxury development will become the tallest residential tower project built in Atlanta since 2009.

Balfour Beatty was awarded the contract from The Related Group, a Florida based real estate conglomerate.

The development was designed by local architecture firm Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart.

To accelerate the project Balfour Beatty will manufacture the building’s window wall system off-site, along with various other mechanical systems.

It will use building information modeling (BIM) to coordinate with trade partners before installing mechanical systems or the building’s skin.

The Midtown Atlanta project will house 390 luxury apartments with 6,500 square feet of retail space. It will have a pool terrace, a clubroom, and a fire pit terrace on the 39th floor.

Al Petrangeli, president of Balfour Beatty Construction’s Georgia Division, said: “The Related Group is well known for its commitment to creating places that inspire and bring meaningful momentum to the neighborhoods where they are located.

“Midtown is Atlanta’s most walkable neighborhood and home to an impressive mix of businesses, retail and green space. We’re honored to be the construction partner on this high-profile project that marks The Related Group’s first entry into the Atlanta market.”

The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2018.
