BAM given nod to build next phase of Tanzanian airport

BAM International has received the instruction to proceed with phase 2 of the design and construction contract of the new Terminal 3 of Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by Tanzania Airports Authority.

The contract value of phase 2 is more than $110m (€100m), the company announced on 30 October.

The contract value of phase 1, awarded to BAM in 2013, was more than €130m.

The new terminal is designed for the anticipated growth of international air traffic, leaving the existing international Terminal 2 to cater for domestic flights.

Phase 1 of the scope of work comprises the construction of the main terminal building – facilitating 3.5 million annual passengers – including parking lots, access roads, platforms and a taxiway.

This second phase will provide further capacity to facilitate six million annual passengers and includes a total terminal building area of approximately 60,000 sq m.
