Atkins has won a contract to develop the IMX International Trade and Exhibition Centre in the new Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) in Shanghai. The investment value for this project is about $770m.Â
All of the buildings within the 150,000m2 site have been designed to meet or exceed China’s three-star Green Building Standard. The project is part an initiative by the Shanghai’s government to connect the city’s businesses with large-scale transport hubs.
It is considered a prototype for green CBD’s across China.
Steven Smit, Atkins’ architecture design director in Shanghai, said: “Our team has been able to interpret the client’s unique vision for their IMX brand. With this development our client aims to enter the burgeoning e-commerce sector in China, which makes this project particularly exciting.”Â
The project is in partnership with Hong Kong’s King Wai Group Company. Construction is due to commence in the second half of 2014.
