Arup has been appointed lead consultant to study infrastructure needs in north Melbourne.
The region has a population of over a million and generates 13% of the state of Victoria’s GDP.
The study will take account of recent growth, urban consolidation and economic diversification away from manufacturing.
MGS Architecture, Buchan Consulting and Strategic Economic Consulting Group are also involved.

The study will identify gaps in social, transport, utility, economic and environmental services to suggest development priorities over the next ten years.
A second stage will examine the next 50 years and explore public and private funding options.
"The project is exciting as it enables us to bring together the many strands of thought leadership around the future of cities in general, and more specifically a significant region in metropolitan Melbourne," said Arup associate Rob Turk.
