A strategic planning consultant working with Dutch consulting engineer Arcadis has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Louise Brooke-Smith was rewarded for her contribution to the “land, planning, property and construction industries over a 35-year career”, according to Arcadis.
Brooke-Smith, who is head of Arcadis UK’s Development and Strategic Planning office, was the first female global president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2014, where she led its Sub-Saharan Africa programme.
Arcadis notes that throughout her career Brooke-Smith has been a “fervent advocate for sharing best practice and continues to work and volunteer internationally as a champion for the built environment sector”.
Brooke-Smith said: “Receiving the OBE is a fantastic honour and I’m privileged to be in a position where I can continue to make a valuable contribution to our sector.
“From legal and regulatory policy changes to advocating genuine inclusion and growing an awareness of the importance of social and environmental sustainability, working in the built environment sector is as diverse and challenging as it is rewarding.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 35 years brings for the industry and how I can continue to support it.”
