Apple has announced plans to spend $500bn across 50 US states over the next four years building data centres, corporate facilities, manufacturing spaces and television production studios.
It will build a 250,000-sq-ft factory in Houston to make servers for Apple’s artificial intelligence system when complete in 2026.
It will boost its US Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5bn to $10bn to support the production of advanced silicon in Taiwan firm TSMC’s rapidly expanding campus in Phoenix, Arizona.
And it will open a manufacturing academy in Detroit to teach small and medium sized businesses about AI and manufacturing techniques.
Money will also go towards expanding R&D hubs across the US.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said: “We’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing.
“We’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”
20,000 employees will be added to Apple’s workforce, which currently stands at 2.9 million in the country.
