Aecom and Gleeds to programme manage two hospitals in Peru

A joint venture between US engineer Aecom and UK consultants Curry & Brown and Gleeds will build two hospitals in the cities of Piura and Trujillo in northeastern Peru.

Peru’s ministry of health will invest about $660m in the facilities, which will reduce the need for patients to travel outside the area for specialised care.

The team, known as the UK Healthcare Alliance, will programme manage the hospitals and will create an office in Lima as a hub for the project.

Joao Wrobel, one of Aecom’s business line leaders for Latin America, said: “This significant investment will not only reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for high-quality specialised care but provide better access to healthcare for over 3 million Peruvians.

“These state-of-the-art hospitals will offer advanced diagnostic and treatment options, help boost local employment and seek to improve quality of life for surrounding communities.”

The hospitals are due to become operational in 2028.
