Acciona orders hydrogen generator for Madrid building site

Hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to replace diesel generators on construction sites (AFC Energy)
Spanish contractor Acciona has leased a latest-generation hydrogen fuel cell generator from a UK company to replace diesel engines on a construction project in Madrid.

UK fuel-cell developer AFC Energy told the London Stock Exchange yesterday that it had shipped its 45kVA H-Power Generator to Madrid with a 60kWh battery.

Miguel Paris Torres, an executive at Acciona’s Construction Business R&D Centre, said the move reflected his company’s ambition to decarbonise its construction business “over an aggressive timescale”.

He said the displacement of diesel engines from sites was “a key element of that strategy”.

“We continue to see hydrogen as a significant pillar of our decarbonisation strategy and believe our partnership with AFC Energy will see growing opportunities to displace diesel on sites with hydrogen power generation starting this year,” he added.

  1. These AFC generators are the answer.. there is no longer any reason to use the word “potential”
These generators are CE marked they have undergone rigourous testing and they will be available up to 500kw in H2 2024 – the time has come for organisations to order these at scale and rid the construction industry of harmful diesel pollution.
