Swedish equipment maker Atlas Copco has launched an energy storage system that is capable of delivering 1MW of power from a single unit, which the company says is the most powerful commercial offering available.
According to website Aggregates Business, up to 16 units can be connected in parallel to give a capacity of up to 16MW.
The Stockholm-based company is aiming the product at big construction sites, as well as entertainment events, ports and disaster relief efforts.
The unit is part of the company’s ZBC range of energy storage systems.
On sites, the ZBC can be part of a hybrid power supply solution. The aim is to set up a microgrid and so reduce the number of diesel generators used, lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
It can also have more specific uses. For example, the 1MW system can be used in the energy-intensive start up of large cranes at ports.
Onur Talas, marketing manager at Atlas Copco Portable Power & Flow, commented: “Our next-generation energy storage solution is our biggest yet, with 1MW power and an energy capacity of 1,200kWh packed into a 20ft container.
“It has been specially designed to provide a reliable and long-lasting power solution for the most critical rental applications that require a constant and significant flow of energy.”
All ZBC battery systems connect to Atlas Copco’s telematics system, FleetLink, so users can remotely monitor their machines in real time to optimise use.
