MAD Architects of Beijing has unveiled two designs for the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles and San Francisco after the original project was axed in Chicago earlier this year.
The two projects will go head to head, with the Lucas Museum deciding on a final location in the next two to four months.
One design would be on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, the other in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, by the Natural History Museum and Coliseum.
Both projects would cover an area of around 275,000 square foot, and have elevated galleries with room for visitors to travel underneath the museum.
The museum in Los Angeles would contain underground parking for 1,800 vehicles.

The Lucas Museum website says the winning project will be a "barrier-free museum where artificial divisions between ‘high’ art and ‘popular’ art are absent, allowing you to explore a wide array of compelling visual storytelling.
"Visitors who might be less inclined to visit a traditional fine art museum will be invited to engage with and relate to art forms they recognize and love."
The museum will contain an "unprecedented collection that features fine art and popular art from illustration to comics, an insider’s perspective on the cinematic creative process and the boundless potential of the digital medium".
