UK architect Foster + Partners has revealed its design for a headquarters for China Merchants Bank in Shenzhen, including a 350m-tall office tower containing 310,000 sq m of office space for the firm’s 13,000 employees.
The tower will contain open-plan, column-free floors that are supported by offset cores at the edge. The split cores will also help reduce solar gain, according to the architect.
The top of the tower will house a quadruple-height atrium, a gallery and event space, and a green plaza at the base of the building in the Shenzhen Bay area will contain shops, restaurants and links to the metro and waterfront. Meanwhile, the tower’s podium will include an art gallery and a gym for employees.
The project is the first to be approved in Shenzhen’s new Super Headquarters District.
Young Wei-Yang Chiu, Foster + Partners partner, said: "The tower forms part of a new complex that connects with the next phase of the Shenzhen Bay development, featuring a well-connected urban square linked with the metro, retail, cultural spaces and Shenzhen Bay’s amazing waterfront."
Grant Brooker, the architect’s studio head, said: "The tower’s design represents a significant step in the evolution of the workplace, which we have evolved in close partnership with the client to create a highly flexible floorplate that can be adjusted to their fast-changing needs and provide an excellent working environment for their staff."
