A unit of China Railway Construction Corporation has won a $534m contract to design and build a rail and bus depot in Singapore, as the city state continues to expand its mass rapid transit (MRT) system.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) gave China Railway 11 Bureau Group Corporation (Singapore Branch) the civil contract to build the Tengah Depot, near the planned Tengah New Town residential district, to serve the new Jurong Region Line (JRL), which will have 24 new MRT stations by 2028.
The Tengah Depot, Singapore’s 10th MRT depot, comprises an integrated rail and bus depot, ancillary buildings and a transport workers’ dormitory.

It occupies a 44.5-hectare site and is designed for the stabling and maintenance of 100 four-car trains and 600 buses, as well as maintenance facilities, the LTA said.
To optimise land use, the depot will also include a four-storey transport workers’ dormitory that can accommodate 450 bus captains.

Construction of Tengah Depot is expected to commence in 2020 and is slated for completion in 2026.

LTA noted that China Railway 11 Bureau Group Corporation built three MRT stations – Tuas Link, Tuas West Road and Tuas Crescent – and their associated railway viaducts on the East-West Line’s Tuas West Extension.
The company also constructed Singapore’s first integrated Rail and Road Viaduct as part of the Tuas West Extension project.
